The Only Mortal in Heaven — Episode 1: Dead and Wanted

Hold your phone upright and Episode 1 of The Only Mortal in Heaven puts William Jones right in your hand. Ten years at one desk end with a cardboard box. He heads home for comfort, opens the bedroom door, and the frame fills with his girlfriend tangled up with another man. No shouting. Just William walking back into the rain with nothing left, wishing he could wake up as somebody else.

Careful what you wish for. Headlights flood the screen. Then a stone hall of empty beds, his head splitting, and two faces leaning into the close-up: a horned demoness in black leather and a pale angel with white wings. The vertical shot keeps them tight, one on each side of him, both staring like he's something rare. "We're your guardians, William." The night that ended his life just opened a much hotter one.
